When the Poinsett Hotel opened on South Main Street in June 1925, it was billed as "Carolina's Finest," and guests over the decades included Amelia Earhart, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and Liberace. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building sat vacant for years before a $20 million restoration brought it back to life in 2000 as The Westin Poinsett. The hotel marked its centennial in 2025 and remains downtown Greenville's grande dame, two blocks from Falls Park on the Reedy.
Couples choose between two historic ballrooms. The 3,250-square-foot Poinsett Ballroom overlooks Main Street and handles receptions of up to 350 guests, with an attached indoor veranda that works well for cocktail hour; the Gold Ballroom seats around 200 beneath its original 1925 crystal chandeliers. In all, eight event rooms give the hotel roughly 10,000 square feet of function space, and catering and bar service come from the in-house culinary team.
With 200 guest rooms upstairs, wedding parties and out-of-town guests can stay on site, and downtown's restaurants and shops are out the front door. Valet parking is available, and a city garage sits directly behind the hotel. The events staff regularly runs everything from rehearsal dinners to full wedding weekends, and the hotel has been a member of Historic Hotels of America since 2002.
